An introduction course to prepare for careers in horticultural systems.   Students need to attain academic skills and knowledge, to acquire knowledge and skills related to horticultural systems and the workplace and to develop knowledge and skills regarding career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry expectations.  Successfully prepared students need to have opportunities to learn, reinforce, apply and transfer their knowledge, skills, and technologies in a variety of settings.[top]

INTRODUCTION TO HORTICULTURAL SCIENCES (INHORT)

This course involves the production, marketing, processing, and use of fruits, nuts, and vegetables, as well as flowers and ornamental plants.  The horticulture industry is dynamic and extends into all nations of the world.  This course helps the student attain essential knowledge and skills related to technical aspects of horticultural plants, controlling common pests, and managing a plant business.  Information presented includes classifying, propagating, and managing greenhouse and nursery plants, including fruit, nuts, and vegetables.  Common pests and safe control practices are discussed as well as identifying and maintaining hand and power tools and equipment and identifying options and opportunities for ownership of a business.   [top]

AGRICULTURAL POWER TECHNOLOGY (AGPOWER)

A technical course designed to develop skills in selection, operation, and maintenance of small air-cooled engines, multi-cylinder engines, hydraulic motors, electric motors, agricultural machinery and tractors.   [top]

PRE-EMPLOYMENT LAB-GENERAL AGRI-MECHANICS (AGMECH)
GRADE LEVEL:  11-12
One or Two Years - 2 periods per day
Prerequisites:
 At least 2 Ag Mechanics courses and teacher approval.

A pre-employment lab course that prepares students to understand tractor and equipment safety, service and repair internal combustion engines, power train, hydraulic systems, fuel, electrical air conditioning, and agricultural machines and  equipment.  Includes the understanding of instrumentation.   [top]p]
