PREPARATION FOR
PARENTING
(PREP-PAR) The Preparation for Parenting course focuses mainly on learning parenting skills and concepts and becoming aware of how that affects us, our life, and outlook. Concepts related to the decision to become a parent, family relationships, and child development are included. Learning about parenting and responsibilities of families at the different stages of the family life-cycle is integrated with lab work projects which vary depending on class needs.
CHILD DEVELOPMENT
(CHLD-DEV) This is a very self-motivated, do-my-homework, and observation type of course. Anyone with a child or expecting one soon, or who is older and needs the class for employment purposes, is welcome. Projects are with community children from local day care facilities. If you like kids this is the class for you! [top]
INDIVIDUAL AND FAMILY
LIVING
(INDV&FAM) Getting married? Thinking about dating? This covers everything from who you are to how you may become a better decision maker. One individual project geared to a personal goal and guest speakers included. Class projects include one event with senior citizens. [top]
NUTRITION & FOODS SCIENCE
(NU&FDSCI) Do you like to eat? Do you need to lose weight? Do you know how to do dishes, buy groceries, plan a menu, and cook a meal you would actually eat? All of this and more will be part of the course work in Food Science and Nutrition. One party or special event is planned for each six weeks. Guest speakers and student demonstrations are part of this class. [top]
APPAREL
(APP) If you already sew, have been in 4-H work or want to learn to sew, you will enjoy Apparel. Construction of several small fun projects before you sew a garment insures success even if you have never threaded a needle before. We will learn to use sewing equipment and the serger. Knitting instructions for personal projects for students wanting textile alternative projects will be included. [top]
PERSONAL AND FAMILY DEVELOPMENT
(PERFAMDV) The content in this
laboratory course is all inclusive of the composition of the home
economics discipline. Students may expect to acquire knowledge and
skills related to family living, child development, clothing and
textiles, housing, management, consumer economics and responsibilities,
food and nutrition, decision making, managing resources, surviving in
the marketplace, career opportunities and requirements, as well as
managing the dual roles of homemaker and wage earner.
