This one should go
down as Bronson’s dirty dozen.
But unlike the Charles Bronson flick, it’s
doubtful that Barbers Hill football fans
will ever consider this one a classic.
Jasper’s Malcolm Bronson intercepted three
passes and returned two for touchdowns, as
the visiting Bulldogs handed the Eagles a
rare home loss, 27-13, Friday night.
Bronson’s first theft came just over 1 1/2
minutes into the game, as he picked off a
Tony Carmona pass and raced 23 yards to give
Jasper to a 6-0 lead.
Then late in the contest, with Jasper
clinging to a 21-13 lead and the Eagles at
midfield, Bronson intercepted Chris Bradshaw
and then wound his way through traffic for
70 yards and the game-clinching score with
30 seconds remaining.
The loss dropped Barbers Hill’s record to
1-1 as the Eagles prepare to travel to
Bellville next week.

There will be plenty
of lessons to be gleaned from the game
film of Barbers Hill’s season opener.
The most important one was already
known, how to win.
The young Eagles left a lot of points on
the field but put enough on the
scoreboard to knock off Wharton 18-16 at
‘The Rig’ in Pearland.
Tony Carmona found Jay Burditt from 29
yards out early in the fourth quarter
for what proved to be the game winner.
“We played in spurts well but I’m proud
of the kids and the coaches for the way
they prepared them,” Barbers Hill head
coach Don Price said. “I take my hat off
to Wharton, they had some good
athletes.”
