This course begins with keyboarding, a
vital skill needed for life. Students learn to touch type—that is, they
learn the position of the keys and learn to type without looking at their
hands. No one is ever sorry they mastered this skill!
Then students do several applications in
Microsoft WORD, EXCEL, PUBLISHER, and POWERPOINT. These beginning lessons
provide enough
instruction for students to be able to use the
programs right now, as well as to give them a head start in computer
courses they take in high school.
Finally, students do a project that includes
a
collection of documents and a web page that they might use for a pretend
business of the future. The documents are kept in their electronic
portfolio, then eventually saved on a personal CD. A favorite activity
students really enjoy is making their own label for the CD. At the end of the
semester, the CD with its
its professional-looking label, is theirs to keep!
