The Pre-AP Texas History class is designed to prepare students for the high school AP History classes where the students can earn college credit for taking the high school classes and passing an end-of-the-year history exam.

This is a college track class thus requirements and demands are more involved and difficult for the students.

Objectives of the class :

1.             complete more involved assignments that require the students to think instead of just recalling facts.

2.          develop intellectual curiosity.

3.          be aware and develop an interest in current events.

4.        design and construct projects that actually work.

5.          research.

6.          create maps, editorial cartoons and written projects.

7.           do your best on every assignment.  Some assignments are layered… so that a student must use a rubric to create an assignment and then a test will be taken on the assignment.  The success on the test will depend on how well the assignment was completed by the student.

8.           have a positive attitude to learn.

9.          exhibit the maturity that is required for this college-track class.

10.     discuss current problems that face the students as they become tax paying citizens.

11.       be responsible and organized.

12.    use the computer in all phases of learning.

The class is designed to develop an independent learner who possesses the knowledge, skills and habits of mind to make rational and informed judgments concerning the past, present and future.

If the student is open-minded and gets involved, this history class will be fun, interesting and rewarding.

“In the past, you had to memorize knowledge because there was a cost to finding it.  Now, what can’t you find in 30 second or less?  We live an open-book-test life that requires a completely different skill set.”                   Mark Cuban
