Contents:

For 2008-2009, the 12 required technology in-service hours occur on Monday, August 18, and Tuesday, August 19.  Every BHISD staff member must attend those 12 hours, or have been granted prior credit for part of those hours.

This calendar contains in-service sessions offered by Barbers Hill ISD for August 2008.  Session information is accurate as of the date posted.  Sessions, dates and times are subject to  modification as changes occur.  Sessions are subject to cancellation if there are insufficient pre-registrations received.  Session status will be updated regularly on this calendar.

There are currently 20 different courses offering over 60 classroom hours of instruction.  New sessions may be added if they become available.  Check back often.

Required Sessions:

During the planning phase of the in-service, campuses and departments were given an opportunity for input.  Many of the courses are a direct result of that input.  Because of that, some teachers will be asked to attend specific sessions. We are implementing the NetStart web page project, all teachers will be asked to register for and attend one of the NetStart sessions. And, high school teachers will be asked to attend one of the MediaCast sessions (MediaCast will be replacing the IPTV system).   The groups affected by these requirements are listed below.

  • All Teachers - register for one of the NetStart Sessions (Mon AM #080818E, Mon PM #080818L, Tue AM #080819H, Tue PM #080819O)

  • All HS teachers - register for one of the MediaCast sessions (Mon AM  #080818C  or Tue PM #080819I)

  • HS Math Teachers - register for Math Types (Mon 6 hours #080818A), and TI-Smartview emulator (Tue AM  #080819B)

  • HS Science Teachers - register for Click2Engage! Interactive response system (Tue 6 hours #080819A)

  • MS Math Teachers - register for MS Math (Mon 6 hours #080818B)

  • IS 5th grade math teachers - Saxon Math (Mon AM  #080818D)

  • IS teachers all - Grade level integration projects (Tue PM #080819J)  NOTE:  Saxon Math may substitute for this.

  • K - 4th grade math teachers that did not make June session - Harcourt Math (Mon PM #080818J)

  • MS and HS teachers new to laptop program (except math teachers) - 1:1 for beginners (Mon PM  #080818K)

  • Elementary special education teachers - Spec Ed Special topics (Tue PM #080819S)

Planning your in-service

You should plan your in-service sessions carefully for ease of use and to get the most out of the training.  Remember everyone must account for 12 hours in class using a combination of AM and PM classes.

  • Look over the list of available sessions.  Write down session number and name of sessions you must and/or want to attend.  Make sure the session number is correct.

  • Members of any special group listed above - register for those sessions first.

  • Register for one of the NetStart Sessions (HS math and science, this is optional)

  • Finally register for any of the other sessions for your free time slots.

Credit for Summer professional development

If you took summer technology professional development and submitted a request for credit, you need only register for one of the NetStart sessions AND if you are a member of one of the special groups listed above.  The remaining time slots should be filled with work in your classroom or other duties as assigned by your supervisor.  NOTE:  you must still report for work; this is NOT an exchange day.

Register on-line:

You must submit a separate on-line registration form for each session you want to attend.  Your information will automatically be added to the rosters for the session you submitted. Please DO NOT request verification via email.  If a session you want is full, you will be contacted so you can choose another session.  Please carefully write down your session choices and make sure the name matches the session number.
