First Grade Standards Based Report Card

The Barbers Hill Primary First Grade Report Card is a stands-based continuum, meaning that progress is reported on the knowledge and skills your child is expected to master in first grade. This report card is intended to communicate which skills students have mastered and whether they are working at grade level. The continuum is based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and ranges from Performance Level 1-3.

Performance Level 1 - Exhibits skill/concept with direct guidance (experiencing difficulty progressing toward the expectation)

Performance Level 2 - Exhibits skill/concept with minimal guidance (has the ability to demonstrate some understanding)

Performance Level 3 - Exhibits mastery of skill/concept (understanding meets or exceeds the expectation)

It is important to note that for each indicator in the report card, the Performance Level 3 indicates that the student met the expectation for the current six weeks, independently, without guidance from the teacher. Students are expected to achieve Performance Level 3 on all first grade skills by the end of the year. Parents may see the performance level scores on assignments that are coming home. Other documentation of your child's progress may be kept in his portfolio at school.

Language Arts

In order to determine the mark on a student’s report card, the classroom teacher collects various types of evidence to create a well-rounded picture of a student’s progress toward meeting the grade level standards.  Evidence may be collected from common assessments, running records, anecdotal records, group observations, checklist, writing, journal samples, student responses (oral and written).
