The Barbers Hill Independent School District strives to maintain competitive salaries at the state and local levels for all its employees in order to attract and retain the best quality personnel needed for the efficient operation of the District's total program.

Administrative and auxiliary positions in the District are priced according to the skill, effort, and responsibility required for each job. Area and state surveys are analyzed each year to determine the latest trends in the labor market, thereby empowering the district to make the appropriate adjustments in its salary structure and to price jobs accordingly for the coming year. Additionally, staff reviews of the various jobs in the District are conducted periodically to adjust the salary placement of District positions that may have evolved over time.

Barbers Hill ISD Teacher Incentive Allotment Compensation Plan

Barbers Hill ISD Board of Trustees have long recognized that the classroom teacher is the single most important factor in student success and the district has been a state leader for teacher compensation at every level of experience. In 2008, Barbers Hill ISD implemented a program to support our staff in their pursuit of National Board Certification. National Board Certification is the most respected professional certification available in education and to that end, BHISD has paid a $5000 stipend for this certification since that time. Established in 2019 with House Bill 3, the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) allows highly effective teachers to earn recognition and gain access to a higher salary. Barbers Hill ISD has state leading salaries and does not have a local designation system under TIA. If a teacher with a TIA designation is hired by Barbers Hill ISD, 100% of the funds earned will be paid toward the designated teachers benefits and retirement contributions. Any TIA funds generated by a Barbers Hill ISD teacher that automatically earns a Recognized designation for having achieved National Board Certification will go toward paying the Board approved $5000 stipend. Should the district receive funding for a designated teacher who has resigned or retired, the district will use any unused allotment to fund the benefits and retirement contribution for teacher(s) on the designated teacher’s campus.

Professional positions are defined as:

Teacher, School Administrator, Nurse, Counselor, Librarian, Instructional Technologist, Diagnostician/LSSP, or Speech Therapist.

Paraprofessional positions are defined as:

Clerical/Secretarial, Bookkeeping, Instructional Aides, and Attendance Clerks.

Service and support positions are defined as:

Maintenance, Operations, Computer Technicians, Custodial, Transportation, Bus Drivers and Monitors, School Nutrition Workers, Police Officers, and Groundskeepers.
