Barbers Hill's Planning and Facilities department consists of three distinct groups and provides the backbone of support for the educational facilities of the district. Energy Management

The Energy Department is located within the Maintenance Department and is an integral part of the day-to-day operations at Barbers Hill. Diligently striving to maintain the Tradition of Excellence, the Energy Department is dedicated to being a good steward of the tax payers financial resources and committed to protecting the Southeast Texas environment. With that in mind, the department works hard to conserve energy to ensure the comfort of students and staff alike. They also enhance the learning environment by saving money allocated to utility bills and putting it back towards other budgetary needs.

Maintenance

Our Maintenance Department is committed to serving our campus staff and students. In order for our campuses to provide the highest level and quality of instruction, the facilities must be comfortable and all utilities must be functioning correctly. Maintenance’s purpose is to keep the facilities operating properly in order to maintain the most comfortable and efficient learning environment possible. The Maintenance staff of eight craftsmen and 13 technicians, is responsible for all air conditioning, plumbing, lighting, air quality, electrical, and general repair work throughout the district and they are all committed to safety, professionalism, and customer service.

HVAC

The HVAC crew are responsible for over 2500 major pieces of HVAC and refrigeration equipment, including chillers, boilers, air handler units, and rooftop units, providing comfort to classrooms, offices, cafeterias, kitchens, large group instruction, and auditoriums. Much of this equipment is located in 300+ mechanical rooms, rooftops, and service yards in 29 buildings encompassing over 2.7 million square feet.

Electrical

The electrical crew are responsible for ensuring the proper functioning of electrical wiring, lighting fixtures, fire alarm and suppression systems, and equipment to provide electrical power to all district facilities and equipment. They work with different electrical systems, tools, and safety regulations to ensure the efficient and safe distribution of electricity to facilities such as classrooms, offices, athletic complexes, scoreboards, elevators, theater lighting, exterior illumination including parking lots, marquees, and crosswalks, as well as powering kitchens, shops, HVAC plants, and all associated equipment.

Preventative Maintenance

The Preventive Maintenance crew is responsible for proactively maintaining district assets to extend the life and maximize performance of mechanical equipment. Working off a recurring schedule, the PM staff is on roofs, service yards, and mechanical rooms, inspecting, cleaning, maintaining, replacing, and repairing equipment such as air handlers, exhaust fans, pumps, motors, blades, belts, lifts, and generators.

General Craftsman

Our general craftsman crew are responsible for maintaining over 27 buildings and facilities district-wide. They are responsible for the building roofs, floors, and everything in between. In addition to building repairs, the craftsmen handle special requests to remodel facilities. Our inventory clerk is responsible for the upkeep of department assets, tools, materials, and parts.

Locksmiths

The locksmiths are responsible for the keys, locks, and hardware for 321 exterior doors and gates, and over 3,500 interior doors. In addition to campus requests, our maintenance staff conducts weekly door checks and two biannual perimeter audits, from which our two locksmiths receive and respond to all needed repairs. The locksmiths work closely with campus administration and police to maintain secure building perimeters and classrooms. Our locksmiths also handle door glass and window repairs.

Painters

Our painters are responsible for all interior and exterior painting and coating throughout the district. The paint department provides interior sheetrock and tile wall repairs and painting, graffiti removal, and cove base repairs. Exterior painting and coating includes parking lot striping, sign stenciling, and resurfacing of walls, and HVAC and electrical equipment. The painters also manage the proper disposal of district hazardous material.
