Transition Services
What is Transition?
Transition is a process designed to assist students with disabilities to achieve their postsecondary goals in the areas of education, employment and adult living. Barbers Hill Special Services support students whether they are transitioning from grade to grade, level to level or high school to college/employment. Functional skills are established through transition planning, annual goals, and academics to facilitate progress towards a student’s postsecondary goal(s).
Federal and State
Federal law states the beginning of transition planning and first IEP to be in effect when the child turns 16 (State law states age 14), or younger. When your child is 14, Barbers Hill ISD begins formally addressing transition in the IEP process.
