Whether she’s moving through the "powerzone" with her iPad or using the camera to celebrate student thinking on the panel, Jenell’s innovative approach makes her a true asset to our district.

What do you love most about technology in the classroom? What do you love most about teaching?
I love that it gives me the ability to personalize the learning experience. In a 7th-grade math classroom, students often work at very different paces. Technology provides a platform where students can receive immediate feedback on their work, allowing them to take ownership of their learning. It has empowered my students to become problem-solvers who aren't afraid to make mistakes and try again, while giving me the tools to facilitate more small-group, targeted instruction.
What is your favorite tech tool and/or device?
I don't think I could survive without my ipad and panel. It has given me ability to move around the room and truly be in the powerzone. I can easily share a students work with the class by using the camera so we can all celebrate students showing their thinking.
How has technology impacted you and your students?
Technology has completely transformed the energy in my classroom. It has allowed me to move away from traditional 'chalk and talk' and toward interactive exploration. For my students, it turns abstract math concepts into something they can manipulate and visualize in real-time. For me, it provides instant data that allows me to pivot my instruction immediately to meet their needs, ensuring no student gets left behind in the curriculum.
"Her Google Sheets wizardry has made helping our students track their data so much easier. She’s always building these amazing tools to keep us organized and is the first person to share them with the rest of us." - Jennifer Sandlin
"Jenell is a master at integrating Google Workspace into her 7th-grade math curriculum to drive student ownership of learning. She has developed highly accessible digital data-tracking documents that allow students to monitor their own test performance in real-time. This not only makes data analysis intuitive for her students but also builds essential real-world tech literacy as they navigate and manage professional-grade tools like Google Docs and Sheets.
Beyond her own classroom, Jenell is a true team player. She consistently shares her innovative templates and digital resources with her colleagues, fostering a collaborative environment that ensures we are all more effective in supporting student growth across the entire department." - Kathryn Bright

February 2026

Meet Justin Hughes, our Tech MVP for the month of February. A 7th Grade Math teacher with 19 years of experience, Justin is new to Barbers Hill ISD this year and has already made a strong impact in the classroom. His use of technology helps bring math to life, creating engaging, interactive learning experiences that support student understanding and growth.

He believes in using tech to empower students to explore, problem-solve, and build confidence in their learning. His enthusiasm, willingness to support his peers, and commitment to continuous growth make him a valued member of our team.

What do you love most about technology in the classroom? What do you love most about teaching?
I love how technology makes learning immediate and responsive. Real-time data helps me adjust instruction and address misconceptions quickly, while tools like Desmos make math visual and interactive.
It also increases access and engagement, giving every student a voice and the chance to learn at their own pace. Technology doesn’t replace teaching, it amplifies it.
I’m passionate about building confident problem-solvers. The most rewarding part is watching students grow from uncertainty to confidence and realize they can do hard things.
What is your favorite tech tool and/or device?
My favorite tech tool is the iPad. It lets me teach dynamically in real time, using digital whiteboards and graphing apps to model, annotate, and move around the room.
It makes math visual and interactive while keeping instruction fluid and responsive. It’s portable, powerful, and puts teaching and learning at my fingertips.
How has technology impacted you and your students?
Technology has transformed both my teaching and how students experience math. Instead of passive note-taking, students now actively solve problems.
With tools like Desmos, students can visualize concepts like slope and linear equations by adjusting graphs and seeing changes instantly, which deepens understanding. Using Google Classroom and digital assessments, I can give immediate feedback and track progress in real time, helping me quickly identify misconceptions and provide targeted support.
"Justin is amazing at technology. This is his first year as a BH Eagle, and he brings a wealth of technical knowledge. He is great to work with and an important part of our 7th-grade math team. He is always willing to step in and help out, especially answering tech questions." - Courtney Nunez
