2026 Bond Election

The Barbers Hill school board approved the calling of a bond initiative on Jan. 26.

This $95 million bond is for the replacement of the current fieldhouse with a multi-purpose athletic fieldhouse and other stadium improvements and will not increase the Barbers Hill ISD tax rate.

The current fieldhouse was built in 1981 and completely paid off in 1998.

The multi-purpose facility will be used for volleyball, basketball, fine arts and any other activities that necessitate a large capacity building.  These activities could include school convocation, graduation and community events.

The multi-purpose facility will be designed to be compatible for fine arts activities allowing for a possible single performance rather than multiple performances caused by current capacity limitations.

The bond will also include a replacement of the existing fieldhouse football dressing facilities and stadium maintenance updates such as lighting, concessions, restrooms and safety-related work.

Election Day for the $95 million bond is May 2, with early voting beginning April 20.

Barbers Hill Independent School District continues to experience significant growth, with enrollment increasing by 1,179 students over the past five years, according to a demographic report presented to the school board Monday night.

For the 2025–26 school year, enrollment rose by approximately 184 students — nearly a 3% increase — highlighting the district’s ongoing upward trend. Projections show enrollment reaching 9,539 students by the 2030–31 school year and climbing further to 10,791 by 2035–36.

District officials attribute the sustained growth to ongoing residential development in the area. Currently, about 1,170 homes are under construction, with 1,500 lots available for building and more than 4,400 additional lots planned for future development.

Barbers Hill ISD has recorded enrollment increases every year for the past 44 years and remains one of the fastest-growing school districts in the greater Houston area.

To accommodate the rising student population, voters have approved multiple facility expansions and new school projects. In May 2024, voters overwhelmingly approved a $378 million bond package to fund the construction of two new primary campuses designed for first- and second-grade students.

Additionally, the district recently completed a $75 million expansion of Barbers Hill High School. The project increased the campus footprint by 30% and more than doubled its original size. Improvements include 150,000 square feet of new construction, renovation of 32,000 square feet of existing space, and the addition of 73,000 square feet dedicated to 256 new parking spaces.

The demographic report also highlighted rising home values within the district. The average price of existing homes has increased by 35% over the past seven years — an increase of approximately $111,600 — while new home prices have risen 19% over the past decade, or nearly $84,800.

The district currently includes 17 active subdivisions, with about 170 homes under construction and more than 1,500 lots ready for development. These subdivisions still have over 1,250 future lots available, and an additional development with 3,170 lots is planned.
