Where readers become leaders!
Welcome back, Little Eagles!
It has been a great school year so far with our amazing readers! It has looked a bit different than in previous years, but with us taking appropriate safety measures our Eagle readers have been able to get books in their hands. During this unique 2020-21 school year, our students have shown what excellence looks like in the library.
We think our BHECC Library is a "magical" place for children to come to learn and grow into lifelong learners and readers.
The book, MISS LADYBIRD’S WILDFLOWERS written by Kathi Appelt/illustrated by Joy Fisher Hein, was used as an inspiration to the library design. If you haven’t seen this wonderful book or our spectacular library, checkout these pictures from our GRAND OPENING/BOOK SIGNING!
We had a line out the door waiting to have books personally signed by author, Kathi Appelt and illustrator, Joy Fisher Hein (pictured).
We have reorganized our library to be user friendly for the young readers that we serve. All books are separated into sections based on their topic or genre. This process makes it easy for the students to find books on subjects that interest them quickly and efficiently. We have books for everyone to read and enjoy. Some books will be read by the children and others will be enjoyed by children with an adult reader.
Research has proven that the future success in reading is dependent on the "lap" time a child has before they are 5 years old. Recommended time reading with an adult is 1,000 hours.
BHISD LIBRARY MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Barbers Hill ISD Library Media Program is to provide age-appropriate resources and to enable patrons to retrieve, evaluate, and utilize information as well as to develop a love of reading and life-long learning.
- Students have a scheduled library visit with their class every other week.
- Books are due on the student's scheduled library day. We will not be able to check out a book to students who have not returned their previous check out.
- While fines are not charged at the elementary level, students must be diligent in returning books in a timely manner.
- Accidents do happen....but lost or damaged books must be paid for so we can replace that copy. Students may not check out books until the fine is paid. (Remember: books should be kept away from Water, Food, Toddlers and Pets)
Join Our Birthday Book Club
We would like to invite you and your child to become a part of our Birthday Book Club at Barbers Hill Early Childhood Center. This is a great way for parents, grandparents and friends to honor a special student by donating a book to the library on his or her birthday. The donation for a birthday book is $20.00.
We have a special selection of new books in the library from which you or the student may choose. A bookplate with the child’s name and picture will be permanently placed in the front of the book. Your child will be the first to check out the book from the library and may enjoy it for up to two weeks before returning it to the library for other children to check out. This is a very personal way to honor your child on his or her birthday and also help our school to add wonderful, new books to our library.
More information can be found on the Birthday Book Club form.
