Dear Parents:

The Barbers Hill ISD Fine Arts Department would like to thank you for taking the time to review the information regarding the UIL and Barbers Hill ISD required forms to participate in the band program. All band/guard students 9-12th grade are required to complete and medical history forms and medicine authorizations online prior to each school year.  Parents/legal guardians and students participating in band/guard each school year are required to complete all forms, and are required to read the UIL forms as they pertain to them.

This year’s paperwork will be completed online to make the process convenient for everyone. Parents will sign and submit forms electronically through the Rank One Band program, which will be available in mid-July.

Parents will be able to print a physical and medical history during the electronic session, or you may also access forms on the Fine Arts page of the school website. The UIL has changed the rule for Pre Participation Physical Evaluations for the 2021-2022 school year and ALL students participating in marching band/guard will require a NEW physical.

Please make sure the parent/guardian and student sign and date the medical history form at the bottom of the page. The physical must be dated after May 1, 2021.

The physical will be turned into the band department at the high school before students will be allowed to participate in any activity, including summer marching rehearsal.  If your child is participating in athletics, you only need one physical, but it’s the families’ responsibility to provide a copy to all parties. You may send the forms via regular mail to: Barbers Hill High School Band, Attention: Kevin Stone at P.O. Box 1108, Mont Belvieu TX 77580. Otherwise, please send the forms with your student to the first day of summer rehearsal.

All other paperwork must be submitted electronically thru Rank One Band before students will be allowed to participate in the Soaring Eagle Band.

BAND
GRADE LEVEL: 9-12
1.0 Credit
Prerequisite: Active membership in band during prior school year and director approval.

Throughout the school year, the band will present numerous public performances. Each performance is important and attendance by the members on the band is required. Band members are expected to make all rehearsals and performances; band is a performance based class as described in the Curriculum Handbook. One year enrollment in band will earn one Fine Art credit and ½ P.E. credit. In addition to the band’s group activities, individual band members will have the opportunity to perform solo literature for their instruments and to perform in various chamber ensembles. These groups will perform at school and at UIL Solo and Ensemble contest. Band students also audition for various TMEA honor groups such as All-Region Band, All Region Jazz Ensemble, All-Region Orchestra and All-State Band. Being selected as a member of these organizations is among the highest honors a high school musician can attain.
