Students and their parents/guardians are generally responsible for the cost of their medical care if injured on school property. However, Barbers Hill ISD Board of Trustees has elected to purchase supplemental insurance to provide secondary student accident insurance for student injuries that occur during a school activity.
Sports/UIL/Student Accident Insurance - District Sponsored
For students (Grades 7 – 12) who participate in school-sponsored UIL sports and activities, Barbers Hill ISD purchases a catastrophic insurance policy for injuries that exceed $25,000 in medical costs that occur while participating in those sports and activities. If a student is injured while participating in a school-sponsored UIL activity, a claim form will be completed by the Athletic Trainer and given to the student’s parent or guardian. It is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to complete their portion of the claim form and follow directions on how to submit the form to the insurance company. The plan is a secondary policy and will only pay within the limits of the policy, which could be a portion of the medical expenses.
The district also purchases student accident insurance coverage for non-UIL activities for all students. If a student is injured in a school-sponsored activity, a claim form will be completed by the campus nurse and given to the student’s parent or guardian. It is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to complete their portion of the claim form and follow directions on how to submit the form to the insurance company. The plan is a secondary policy and will only pay within the limits of the policy, which could be a portion of the medical expenses.
