It is extremely important that students continue to read during the summer. Research shows that the absence of regular reading practice can cause a significant drop in reading proficiency over the summer months. The Sam and Carmena Goss Library (located next door to Barbers Hill High School) and the Sterling Municipal Library (located in Baytown) are great places to find books and magazines to read. Both libraries also offer fun summer reading programs. If you can not accompany your child to the library simply have your child read books and magazines from home or access the Sora app through Clever. Login with your BH Eagle account.
In alignment with our district’s mission to “provide the highest level of instruction and learning opportunities that produce motivated and successful learners,” it is the primary purpose of BHISD’s Required Summer Reading to excite and encourage our students to seek advanced courses in English Language Arts. Through an increased exposure to quality literature, and by responding to questions that promote critical thinking, students are more likely to score higher on standardized tests like the SAT, ACT and Advanced Placement (AP) Exams.
